(Colistin sulphate)
Colistin is a polypeptide antibiotic , was obtained from a
fermentation broth inoculated with Bacillus polimyxa
var. colistinus which had been isolated from soil
sampled of Fukushima Prefecture , Japan.

Anti-bacterial spectrum
Gram-negative :
E.Coli
Shigella spp
Salmonella spp
Enterobacter spp
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Klebsiella pneumoniae
Campylobacter (vibrio) coli .

Characteristics :
1) Colistin is effective against Gram – bacteria such as E.Coli and
Salmonella.
2) Colistin does not select resistant bacteria in vivo and its
resistance is not transferred by the R-factor.
3) Colistin is not absorbed from the digestive tract of poultry hence
no residue is observe.
4) Colistin has a synergistic effect against bacteria when used in
combination with Zinc-bacitracin.
5) Colistin is effective as a growth promoter for broiler. It is also
used in the prevention and control of infectious enteritis in
broiler.

Synergism and Antagonism :
Colistin is compatible with tetracyclines, sulfas, imidazoles,
Lincomycin and common feed additives. Sometimes is
showed a good synergism with some antibiotics particularly
with bacitracin .There are no experiences of antagonist
effects between Colistin and other antibiotics.
Palatability :
No "medicinal taste" to deter sick animals from eating or
drinking.

antibacterial substances

Because it acts rapidly and can be used in periods when

Poultry :
For prevention of intestinal diseases (diarrhea)
20-200 g/ton of complete feed .

For therapy 800-1000g/ton of complete feed for
5-15 days

Colimix 120 premix Sintofarm has :
1)Broad antibiotic spectrum – has strong activity on
gram-negative bacteria such as E.Coli , Salmonella ecc.
2)Strong bactericidal capacity-its effect mechanism is
to block cell membrane selective permeation function.
3)Good compatibility- better effectiveness in
combination with gram-positive bacteria drug
4)Good stability-it is not affected by feed ,enzyme and
secretive substance.
