1. Broken links
- avoid “link rot”
- broken links turn-off visitors
- broken links kill your corporate image
- broken links make you look unprofessional
- many search engines penalise sites in
rankings if they find too many broken links
- use Xenu regularly

2. Title tags
- critical for search engine optimisation (SEO)
- no title tags, poor/no search result listings
- random search in corporate web
> “2 column template” – 166 search results
> “fullscreen template” – 108 search results
- use keywords in title tags for SEO
3. Obsolete sites/pages/content
- obsolete sites/pages are still found by search
engines
- obsolete sites/pages make you look
unprofessional
- check (especially for pages deep in your site,
and unlinked sites)
- update
- delete

4. Content
- no dead people, no stale news
- update or archive
- keep content fresh eg news updates
> search engines will index your site more
> keeps visitors coming back
> shows your visitors you care
- consistency in layout and format
