Acids
҉An Acid is a ion donator
҉Strong acids
҉Completely ionized
҉Examples of strong acids
҉Sulfuric, Nitric & Hydro bromic
҉ Weak acids
҉Partially ionized
҉ Examples of weak acids
҉ Nitrous, Benzoic & Hydrofluoric
҉ Two Examples of acids
҉ If it tastes sour
҉ if it is below seven on the pH scale
Bases
• Base: a substance that produces hydroxide
ions in solution or accepts hydrogen ions.
Reactions
• Acid + Base = Neutralization
• Ex: Salt and Water

Acid Rain Examples
• Rain water is naturally acidic but because of
carbon dioxide it makes it more of a danger.
CO2 is in our atmosphere.
• It causes harm to the lakes and rivers lined
with inert materials. It kills trees and burns the
branches off.
• Carbon dioxide (co2) + Water (h2o) = Carbonic
Acid (h2co3)
• Sulfur Dioxide (2SO2) + Oxygen (o2) =
Trioxide (2so3)
Sulfur
• Sulfur Trioxide (2so3) + Water (h2o) = Sulfuric
Acid (h2so4)
