Are we ready to face the challenge?
Global warming is today an undisputed
and inconvenient truth
What we can do to meet the challenge?
•
Raise awareness
•
Offer the products/services that is a part of the
solution
•
Act individually
Energy consumption in EU countries
About 50% of energy consumption in
buildings is used for space heating

Energy intensity of national economies
• Ukraine has an extremely energy-intensive economy:
it consumes by 2.4 times more energy than world
average, and by 3.1 times more than EU countries
• Reasons include industrial specifics as well as very
inefficient use of energy (e.g. high losses during
transmission and distribution)

• Consume not enough from the life comfort level point
of view, however consume a lot from the resource
consumption efficiency point of view

Where we allow losses
During a heating season in Ukraine
goes to the air:
-through walls of existing buildings
32 million Gcal of heat;
-over 33 million Gcal is lost through
windows, and
-about 14 million Gcal goes out
through roofs
Over 25% of total energy saving
potential is in residential sector
Energy efficiency is the “Biggest Fuel” and the
cleanest: historical impact for IEA-11
If whole world has followed the same trend global abatement from
energy efficiency gains over 30 years amount to ~15 Gt CO2 per annum

Energy savings due to energy efficiency improvements
So what about reducing demand through
higher efficiency?
•
Higher efficiency buildings
•
Higher efficiency appliances and equipment
•
Higher efficiency industrial processes
•
Higher efficiency vehicles
•
Transport mode-shifting & demand management
•
Positive behavioural changes

Why insulate?
Key benefits:
• energy saving and cost savings on heating
• comfort conditions in home
• improvement of structure life time
