A Business site can market products or services, include
customer support and/or preform sales transctions. The site can
serve consumers -- Business to Consumer (B2C) or serve other
businesses -- Business to Business (B2).

Educational - Distribute Information:
A website to share information may
not require as many features as a site
that sells something. Wikipedia is a not
for profit informational site that shares
human knowledge.
Informational - Interest Group:
This type of site is not a business
or commercial site related site, it
could be a site devoted to a hobby,
a pop band, or a local interest
group.

The largest growth in internet use has
been in the area of social networking.
These sites use data mining techniques
to sell you things and analyse your
likes and dislikes.
Social - Publish Information
Sites like Twitter and YouTube allow
people to “publish” their ideas,
talents, experiences and opinions to a
wide audience. These sites make
money through advertising.
Common Terminology
Blog: A blend of the words web and log. A blog is a user-generated website
where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse
chronological order. Blogs provide commentary or news on a particular
subject
Search Engine: usually refers to a Web search engine, which searches for
information on the Web. (Google, AskJeeves, etc)
Portal: a site on the Web that provides personalized capabilities to its visitors,
providing a pathway to other content. (Sympatico.ca, tdsb.on.ca, etc)
Web Host: a company that provides individuals and organizations a way to
make their websites accessible via the World Wide Web.
E-zine: An Internet publication (newsletter, magazine, etc.) distributed via the
web or e-mail.
Data Mining: Using computers to analyze masses of information to discover
trends and patterns. For example, data mining software can help

retail companies find customers with common interests.
