7-gap resonators
The LINAC following the IH-structure consists of three 7gap resonators. These special types of split ring resonators are
designed for synchronous particle velocities of  = v/c = 5.4%,
6.0% and 6.6%. The final ion energy can easily be adjusted
between 0.8 and 2.2 MeV/u by tuning the RF power and phase
of the three active resonators.
• Theory
The resonator has a single resonance
structure, which consists of a copper
half shell and three arms attached to
both sides of the shell. The tuning
plate, visible at the bottom of the
resonator, corrects detuning effects.
The RF power is coupled into the
resonator at one of the three legs,
where the magnetic field flux is
maximum. Between first and second
resonator there is an additional
doublet for transverse focusing.
