Hillside Grassland
Hypothesis
• In grassland, the taro can only be found
under the trees due to the low light intensity
and soil nature.
Principle
Light intensity:The nature habitat of taro is in
shady area.Trees block the light of lower
plants. Therefore, taro like to grow below the trees
to prevent excessive water loss.
Soil:The soil under the trees are rich in nutrients
as there are many dead leaves which can be
changed into food by bacteria. Therefore, taro can
grow well under the trees.

Soil auger
Data logger with temperature sensor
Procedure:
how to find out the effect of
light
1.Measure the radius from the tree to the
farthest taro.
2.Record the light intensity at r/2.
3.Repeat step[2] in different direction.
Procedure:to find out the
effect of soil
1.Take the samples(y) of soil at r/2.
2.Set a point that is at the same height as
the taro and take another soil sample(z).
3.Put the sample y&z in the oven to
evapourate the organic substance.
4.Dissolve the remaining sample in distilled
water.
5.Use solution A or B to test phosphate and
C to test ammonia.
6.Repeat step 8-9 to test the abundance of
nutrients of the soil.
