Notes
Grassland
The grassland
is dry and has all four
seasons.
Grassland
The grassland has large
areas of grass but few
trees. The plants in the
grassland can survive
long periods without
rain.

Describe the weather in
the grassland.
What kind of animals
and plants might you
find there?

Temperate Deciduous Forest
The temperate
deciduous
forest has all
four seasons.
Temperate Deciduous Forest
The trees in this forest are
mostly deciduous trees.
Deciduous trees have leaves
that change color and fall off
in the autumn.
Review
Describe the weather in a
temperate deciduous
forest.
What kind of animals and
plants might you find
there?

Taiga
The taiga has long
cold winters and
short cool
summers.
Taiga
 The trees in the taiga
are conifers, which
have a conical shape
and needles. The
conical shape allows
these trees to shed
snow easily without
breaking limbs.
Review
Describe the weather of
the taiga.
What kind of animals
and plants might you
find there?

Tundra
The tundra has very cold
temperatures, short
summers, and permafrost.
Permafrost means that the
ground is always frozen.
Tundra
There are few animals in the
tundra and no trees. The
plants in the tundra, like
moss, lichens, and grass,
need less light and can
survive cold temperatures.
Review
Describe the weather in
the tundra.
What kind of animals
and plants might you
find there?
1
Which biome is very
cold, has short
summers, and no
trees?
2
Which biome has all
four seasons and
deciduous trees?
3
Which biome has
long, cold winters
and short, cool
summers?
4
Which biome has
permafrost and very
few animals?
5
Which biome has all
four seasons and
few trees?
6
Which biome is dry
and has large areas of
grass?
7
Which two biomes have
forests of conifers (hint:
one of them we talked
about on Monday)?
8
Which biomes have
few or no trees?
9
Most of Russia is covered
in forests of conifers.
Winters in Russia are long
and cold while summers
are short and cool. In
which biome is Russia
located?
10
 Most of Georgia is covered in
forests of trees whose leaves
turn colors and fall off in the
fall. Georgia experiences all
four seasons. In which biome
is Georgia located?
11
 Tanzania is an African country
home to animals like lions,
elephants, zebras, and
antelope. Tanzania is covered
in large areas of grass, few
trees, and has a fairly dry
climate. In which biome is
Tanzania located?
12
Northern Alaska is very
cold and there is permafrost
all year. Few animals live
there and there are no trees.
In which biome is Northern
Alaska located?
13
How would you
characterize
(describe) the
grassland?
14
How would your
characterize
(describe) the
temperate deciduous
forest?
15
How would you
characterize the
tundra?
16
How would you
characterize the
taiga?
17
Which of the following best describes
the plant life in the grassland?
a) Coniferous trees with needles
b) Cacti with waxy exteriors and
sharp needles
c) Large areas of grass and few trees
d) Trees whose leaves change color
and fall off in the autumn
18
The temperate deciduous forest’s plant life
is characterized by which of the following
a) Trees whose leaves change color and
fall off in autumn
b) Large areas of grass and few trees
c) Evergreen trees with needles
d)Canopied trees requiring much rainfall
each year
19
The tundra plant life is characterized by
which of the following
a) Trees whose leaves change color and
fall off in autumn
b) Cacti with waxy exteriors and sharp
needles
c) Evergreen trees with needles
d) Small plants that can survive cold
temperatures

On the outside: the biome name
and a picture
On the inside – summarize
information about the climate,
plants, and animals of the biome
