Warm up:
1. What type of organisms are
“PRODUCERS”
2. Do plants need food?
3. How do plants get their food?
4. Have you heard of the word
“photosynthesis”?
1. All energy comes from the sun!
2. Plants capture light energy and change it to
chemical energy.
3. Chemical energy = Glucose! (Sugar)
4. Photosynthesis “creating with sunlight”
5. Reactants of photosynthesis = carbon
dioxide, water and sunlight
6. Products of photosynthesis = sugar and
oxygen
Formula of Photosynthesis:
Carbon Dioxide + Water + sunlight
(REACTANTS)
Sugar + Oxygen
(PRODUCTS)
Photosynthesis
Water + Carbon Dioxide + Sunlight
=
Glucose + Oxygen
Draw the pictures, label them with words and draw the
arrows to describe photosynthesis!

Word
Gravitropism
Definition Picture
turning or growth
movement by a
plant in
response to
gravity.
• Roots grow
down
• Stems grow
up
Do plants DO anything?
• They are living things and respond to their
environment!
• How do plants respond to changing
seasons?
1. DECIDUOUS TREES LOSE THEIR LEAVES
2. Become DORMANT
Sum It Up
• The sun provides most of the energy for
all living things.
• Plants turn light energy from the sun into
chemical energy
• Plants are producers because they make
their own food (simple sugar=glucose)
• All other living things depend on plants
for food (consumers)
• Carbon dioxide, water, and light energy
react to produce glucose and oxygen
Closure – discussion
questions
1. What did you learn today?
2. What is photosynthesis?
3. What type of organism does the
process of photosynethesis?
