Collected data do not cover preferences of all species.
 Relationship between sociality and diet of Small Indian
Mongoose due to incorrect classification on diet (Hays
1999).
 Slendertailed-meerkat and Dwarf Mongoose dispersal
based on opportunistic food in range (Caughley &
Sinclair 1994).

Small Indian Mongoose
Herpestes auropunctatus
•Introduced to Hawaii in 1883 (Kramer 1971).
•Found in low land area or beach.
•Under favorable conditions found at higher elevations.
Problem
•Predation by easy accessibility to nests
(Stone et al 1994).
•Herpestes auropunctatus threat to native and
introduced species (Hawaii 1968).
Measures Taken
Test of hamburger and sardines (Stone et al).
 Effectiveness of control in short periods has
been proven.
 Effects over longer periods of time has not been
discussed.
 Behavioral or Habituation variables have never
been discussed.

