• Drill- Which population would be impacted
more by the introduction of snakehead fishSunfish or Eastern Screech Owls? Why?
Burmese Python in the
everglades??
Burmese Python in the
everglades??
Can a plant be an invasive
species?
Purple loosestrife- out competes
cattails for land. Cattails provide
habitats to many organisms.
Water Cabbage- can cover the
surface of the water. No sunlight
gets past.
• Eastern
Screech Owl
Tawny Owl
#9
• If the Tawny owls were brought to
Maryland, they would take over the
habitats of the Eastern screech owl. The
Tawny owls would feed on the same prey
as the Eastern screech owls and cause a
competition for resources. The tawny owls
would cause a decrease in the eastern
screech owl population.
# 10
• The introduction of a nonnative species
into an ecosystem can cause a
competition for resources such as food
and shelter with the native populations.
The invasive species may not have a
predator in the new ecosystem. For
example if a Burmese python is released
in the everglades it eats many other
snakes prey (rodents).
