Brazil Facts
• It is estimated that 20% of the
world’s biodiversity is found in
Brazil.
• Brazil is home to at least 103,870
animal species and between 43,000
and 49,000 plant species.
• Each year about 700 new animal
species are discovered in Brazil!
The Amazon
• The Amazon
rainforest is the
largest rainforest in
the world.
• The Amazon river is
over 6,600 km long.
• The Amazon is
home to one in ten of
all known animals and
plants.

• There are also more
than 30 million people
living in the Amazon.

jobs, food and water.
• Unfortunately the
Amazon is threatened
by deforestation.
An area the size of three football
pitches is disappearing every minute.
Endangered Species
Many of the species that live in the Amazon are considered to be
endangered species. The conservation status of a species indicates how
great the risk is of that species becoming extinct in the near future:
• Extinct
• Extinct in the Wild
• Critically Endangered
• Endangered
• Vulnerable
• Near Threatened
• Least Concern

Your Task

In pairs, imagine that you are wildlife TV presenters who have been
sent into the depths of the Amazon to film a rare endangered species!

Use the Fact Files provided to find out more about the Amazon and
your chosen species.
•
You can use this information to create your very own script.
