TOCO TOUCAN
Toco Toucan
The massive, bright yellow
beak of this South American
bird helps scare away
predators such as hawks.
The toco toucan,
Ramphastos toco, is
extremely playful, fencing
with its beak or beating it
against tree trunks. It
wanders through woodlands
from Guiana to Argentina in
flocks of a dozen or fewer,
eating fruits and insects. It
nests in tree holes.
FOOD
They feed chiefly on fruit, and can
manipulate small berries at the tip of
the bill with great ability. They also
eat small birds and lizards.
