WET LANDS
A wetland is a land area that is
saturated with water, either permanently
or seasonally, such that it takes on the
characteristics of a distinct ecosystem.
Many species of frogs live in wetlands,
while others visit them each year to lay
eggs .
challenges and risk of the wetlands
• Half of the world’s wetlands have
disappeared since 1900. Development
and conversion continue to pose major
threats to wetlands, despite their value
and importance.
• This natural reserve is made up of three
woods; namely Goodenia Woods, Pimelea
Woods and Dianella Woods.
• Ontario implemented a 6.2 ha marsh in
2000, for the purpose of improving water
quality before discharge to receiving
waters
