►Identify
density dependent and
density independent limiting factors
that affect populations in an
ecosystem.
Density Dependent
► It
describes a factor that influences
individuals in a population in a degree that
varies in response to how dense the
population is.
Density Dependent Limiting Factors
► Density
dependent factors become limiting
only when the population of an area
reaches a certain level.
► These factors affect most strongly when a
population is large and dense.
► Other limiting factors include competition,
predation, parasitism, and disease.
Disease in density dependent areas.
►
►
If a plague comes into a
city that would kill many
people. That mainly
happens because of lack of
sanitation and because
lack of hygiene.
It can also come in to the
town with disease bacteria
like tapeworms, and
parasitic organisms.
Lack of Food, Water, and Air in
density dependent areas.
►
►
►
If there is lack of food that
is mainly because of
growth in the population.
Same would go towards
water and if the water gets
dirty that could kill many
people.
If the air gets polluted that
could also kill a lot of
people.
Lack of space.
►
►
If there is too many people
in a small town that
causes a lack of space
which lead the end of
human civilization.
Because of the lack of
space the car can not get
through the garage door.

Abiotic and Biotic
► Biotic-
means related
to life. Plants, animals,
fungi, and bacteria are
all biotic factors.
► Abiotic- means not
being alive.
Environmental factors
such habitat (pond,
lake, ocean, desert,
and mountain.)
Questions on density dependent
factors.
1.
If a _______ came to town it would kill
many people.
The answer is on a previous slide.
Answer to Q? 1

Density INDEPENDENT!!!!!!!!
Limiting Factors.
► They
affect all populations in similar ways,
regardless of the population size!!!!!!
► That’s
the definition for density
independent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
► YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Natural Disasters examples of things
that are density independent.
►
For some species hurricanes or tornadoes can destroy a
population.
►
Extreme cold or hot weather can also be really bad for a
population.
►
EX1: A severe winter frost hits Arizona that could kill giant
saguaro cactuses.
►
In some areas long droughts can effect populations of
vegetation.
►
Those are some of the severe natural disasters!!!!!!
This is a picture of a Natural
disaster!!!!!!!!!!
► THIS
IS A
TORNADO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q#8
► How
are tornadoes started???
Answer to Q # 8
► When
to air masses, (hot and cold) collide
together it forms a tornado!!!!!! NOOOO…
Q#9
