Customs and Celebrations
Religion
Mexico has no official religion. 89% if Mexico
reports to be Catholic.
Religion
Praying to Saints, Mary, and Angels
Catholics allow this. They can intercede with God
on your behalf.
Christians do not ask for intercession.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the
truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the
Father, but by me.
Religion
Means of Salvation
Catholics believe it is received at baptism: may be lost by mortal sin; salvation
through faith and penance. Believe in Jesus as the sole savior of humanity.
Must have a relationship with Jesus. Good works. Seven Sacraments.
Christians believe it is through Christ's death and resurrection.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be
saved.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man shall boast.
Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and
shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and
with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Religion
Life after death.
Catholics believe there is eternal salvation in Heaven; eternal damnation in
Hell; temporal third state before Heaven is known as Purgatory.
Christians believe man is appointed to die once, and after that come judgment.
Those that are redeemed, live on in Heaven, those that rejected God suffer
for eternity in Hell.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers,
and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in
the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, depart from me, ye
cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Matthew 25:46 and these shall go away into everlasting punishment; but the righteous
into life eternal. Http://www.mexinsider.comreligion-in-mexico/html
Tips for Teachers
Get to know your students.
Include elements in the curriculum that are familiar to your student and
relevant to his or her experiences
Share some of their cultures foods with your class.
Assign small group work in class to create a less intimidating environment
for a new student.
Avoid asking a new student to display their knowledge in front of the class
until they become familiar with their surroundings.
Incorporate the Spanish language into the curriculum in creative ways.
Do not make your students feel like they need to choose whether they are
Mexican or American.
