Mongolia SME Observatory Results
The following slides summarize the responses of 1511 SME interviews
conducted by staff of the SME Department of the Ministry of Labour of
Mongolia in September 2014. A large number of cross tabulations is
possible, but for this presentation, we have chosen in most cases to
provide two slides for each question asked:
• One which shows the variations for three “super regions”
representing groups of regions (aimags) and districts of the capital
city Ulaanbaatar;
• One which show cross-tabulation based on education of the
proprietor, number of people employed/engaged in the SME, sector
etc.
Mongolia SME Observatory Results
We asked SMEs to comment on the level of innovation in the business,
making it clear that innovation meant any actions in product
development leading to changes in sales (i.e. innovation does not have
to be hi-tech, it might be something as basic as changing the recipes in
the bakery or a better sole on your boot). We were also interested to
know if this was all done in-house or is it possible to find innovation
partners?
The general trend is that Mongolian SMEs have a high awareness of the
importance of product innovation and are willing to invest the time and
resources into making a better product.
