Douro region is one of the oldest Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) regions in Portugal's
wine growing history. Over 250 years old, it is located in north-eastern Portugal along the
Douro River valley. This region is bordered by mountain ranges in the north, west, and south
and by the border with Spain in the east. The Douro P.D.O. Region has an area of about
250,000 hectares. Approximately 18.3% of this area is occupied by growing grape vines in
around 46,000 hectares, which are farmed by approximately 40,000 winegrowers.
Smallholdings are predominant in this region which is largely dependent on vine growing.
There is also a tradition of olive oil and almond production. Along its western border areas,
cherry tree cultivation is also relatively widespread and in the south, at higher altitudes, apple
growing is common.
The Douro Valley features a combination of climate and soil that creates a perfect conditions

– light and fruity table wine - and the Douro wine – the famous fortified after-diner wine.

Douro Valley Wine Farm
Long famous as the source of port wine, the Douro is now also renowned for its fine, rich
unfortified wines, both red and white. This is one of the wildest, most mountainous land
rugged wine regions of Portugal. It is cut through, in deep twists and turns, by the river Douro.
Defying gravity on the steep slopes along the banks of the river and its tributaries, the vines
are planted in poor, schistous soils. Man has engraved his own contours here. In the center of
the region, the historic, narrow, stone-walled vine terraces have been named a UNESCO
World Heritage Site, while elsewhere, modern terraces are wider, buttressed by steep banks
of earth. The wine region follows the course of the river down from the Spanish border to a
point near the town of Mesão Frio, about 90km up-river from the city of Porto (Oporto). Here
the Serra do Marão rises up, protecting the region from the influence of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Douro has a huge selection of local grape varieties, and many vineyards of impressive,
gnarled old vines that give small yields of rich, complex wine, whether for port or for
unfortified wines. Dozens of different grape varieties may be mixed together in these old
vineyards. In modern times, vines are planted separately, and five grapes have been declared
the top choice for port: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca,Touriga Nacional,Tinta Barroca and Tinto
Cão. The red wines tend to be robust and full-bodied and often spend some time aging in oak.
The same red grapes that traditionally used for Port are now used for the dry wines, including
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca,Tinta Barroca, and Tinta Roriz , either in a blend or bottled
alone. Fans of Rioja, Ribera del Duero, or Brunello di Mantalcino will be delighted by the
complexity and diversity of flavors the Douro’s wines can offer.

vineyards and by the revival of a century-old family business.

including grape and wine Alvarinho. Currently the farm is fully devoted to the in-house
production of Alvarinho wine. Vineyard area: 7.50 ha
The manor house, surrounded by vineyards, has been restored and adapted to their new

Alentejo Wine Farm
The Alentejo region covers about a third of Portugal. The reds, easy drinkers, rich and fruity,
are the darlings of Lisbon cafés and restaurants. There are quaffing wines, but also fine wines,
especially in the red department. Whites are more difficult in this hot climate, but some very
good ones are made, given the right place, and/or appropriate skill in vineyard sand cellar.
Most of the Alentejo consists of undulating plains and gentle hills, with serious mountains only
in the north east, where, São Mamede mountain range rises up by the border with Spain, and
the air becomes cooler and the countryside greener. Soils vary greatly: schist, pink marble,
granite, limestone, often laid up on a sub-layer of water-retaining clay. The white Antão Vaz is
the star grape of the region, with good acidity and tropical fruit flavours. It also responds well
to barrel-fermentation. Aragonez (Tempranillo) is the most widely-planted red grape. The redfleshed French grape Alicante Bouschet is often the inky, treacley backbone of red blends.
Alfrocheiro, Castelão and Trincadeira also have valuable parts to play, with Moreto, Tinta
Caiada and Tinta Grossa padding out some blends. However, many of the new generation of
Alentejo reds incorporate imported grapes such as Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, made as
Vinho Regional.

Established in 2000, The Company encompasses a 320 ha farm covering an area of 229
hectares of vineyards and a 4.200 sqm cellar with a storage capacity of 5 million liters. It is the
third largest continuous vineyard in Portugal and one of the largest in Europe. Its dimension
allows for economies of scale and an extensive use of technology during harvest. With a
business model grounded on quality, innovation and scale, The Company employs its
technologically advanced facilities to process all its grape, resorting to the purchase of third
party grapes to answer the increasing demand. Located near the historical city of Arraiolos,
famous for its tapestries, its peaceful countryside features excellent conditions for all the
typical Alentejo varieties of grapes. Its 229 ha of vineyards (217 ha red grape and 12 ha white
grape) can produce a yearly average of 3 million kg of grapes.
The Opportunity: The current shareholders are looking for a partner to support its
international expansion strategy, and are willing to sell a stake in the company between
25% and 33%. This is an opportunity to become part of one of the most important and
modern wine projects in Portugal. The current shareholders are available to negotiate a
fixed dividend and a buy-back option after 6 years, to the new investor.
