 Remnants of Tropical Storm Nora
 Cyclone formed over the central Bay of Bengal on
Nov 8
 Then travelled north as it was intensifying
 Winds up to 185km/h (115mph)
 966 hPa (mbar)
 Made landfall on the coast of East Pakistan around the
time of high tide with 15 to 20 ft high
 Sixth cyclonic storm of the 1970 North Indian Ocean

Thana, Tazmuddin

 Cyclones are prone to Bangladesh because of the

Ganges river delta that is very large and flat that covers
most of southern Bangladesh
Land is below 180 meters (600 ft) apart from
Chittagong district
Regions lie less than 39 feet above sea level
Strength was equivalent to a category three hurricane
$86.4 million
85% of homes in the area were destroyed or severely
damaged
