Climate is the weather conditions in an area
over a long period of time.
There are many types of climates:




Desert
Tropical
Temperate Cold/Warm
Highland


A polar climate is the opposite of a tropical
climate.
Three things influence climate

Latitude
Land/Water
Altitude




Temperate means neither very hot nor very
cold.
Tropic is an area on Earth at or near the
equator.
Sea Breeze is the wind blowing during
daylight hours from cool water to warmer land.
Land Breeze is a night wind blowing from cool
land to warmer water.

Altitude is elevation, the distance above or
below sea level.
Rain shadow is the dry area on the side of a
mountain or mountain range.

Vegetation is plant life.
Each climate region has its own vegetation.
A plant can survive in certain regions based on
the land and water in that region.
A rain forest is a wetland with thick vegetation
and tall trees that block the sunlight.
Arid means very dry with little rainfall.
