Preparation and signature of intergovernmental
agreement with Finland about trans-bordering reserves
included to “Ingermanlandskiy” project-reserve.
Designed reserve can act like a project of PAs
development according to international standards.
Reserve establishment will help to solve
following problems:
1. Conservation of standards of Eastern Baltic natural complexes in
conditions of intense economic development of the region;
2. Maintenance of biodiversity as the fundamental criteria of region
sustainable development, including conservation of rare and
endangered plants and animals species.
3. Conservation of most popular birds resting places on the White SeaBaltic Migrating Way for the maintenance of valuable waterfowls and
near water birds in the North-West of Russia and European
continent.
4. Conservation of shallow places as the zone of natural biological
purification of polluted waters, coming from Neva Bay into the Baltic
Sea, as well as spawning places of many food fish
The Baltic Forests – a Resource for Economic
Development with Environmental Quality
Background
The County of Västernorrland has established regional co-operation with the
regions of Wielkopolska in Poland and St. Petersburg/Leningrad Oblast in
NW Russia.
Sustainable forestry has been identified as one vital process to promote, in
terms of regional sustainability, business development, environmental care
in the Baltic area, with special focus on the greenhouse effect (reduction of
CO2-levels).
Aim of the project
To create a long term co-operation process with important partners around the
Baltic Sea in the field of sustainable forestry promoting network and cluster
building for business growth and development of technology with
environmental profile. Regional “godfathers” with special knowledge will
involve small and medium sized enterprises (SME) in the project.
