SUMMARY
In this PowerPoint I will be comparing
the different regions of Africa. Subjects
like Climate,
Biomes,
Economy,
Culture.
CLIMATE
South Africa – south Africa is part of the southern hemispheres subtropics
zone. The coldest part of the year is during July and August. Temperatures of
around 25˚C from November to march and the temperature lowers in July
and August to around 10˚c.
North Africa – this area is occupied by the Sahara desert which can reach
temperatures of 54˚C. but the north also boarders the Mediterranean sea
which has similar temperatures to the other countries that boarder the
Mediterranean like Grease, Turkey, Italy, France and many more.
West Africa – there is a lot of coastal places that can become very wet
during the year. The northern part of west Africa are filled with the Sahara
desert.
The temperatures vary as you move further north up the continent.
BIOMES
The northern coast has a Mediterranean biome and as you
move south off the coast there is a desert which is called the
Sahara desert and as you move more south the biomes change
to semi-desert. The more you move south it turns into a dry
Savanah then into a moist Savanah. As you move east into the
eastern region you meet a semi desert area whereas if you
move towards the central western area there are tropical rain
forests. In the south of Africa (south Africa) there are grasslands,
semi desert and also Mediterranean areas.
Southern Africa has the most diverse biomes and it is obvious
that the northern areas are very dry containing deserts.
ECONOMY
Africa is a very diverse place with many different fortunes in
it. Northern areas has a massive amount of oil and a bit of
iron ore. However western Africa has lots of groundnuts in
the semi desert areas and on the coastal area of western
areas have lots of rubber and also some diamond.
The more mountainous areas like the eastern region of
Africa have little supplies and breed various animals.
Southern Africa which is obviously a very rich area of Africa
because it has a mass amount of mineral including: iron,
manganese, vanadium, nickel, diamond, asbestos, silver,
gold, uranium and many more.
CULTURE
North Africa has a main religion of Christianity. Western
Africa is colonised by various European countries and it
was very important during the slave trade. In the urban
areas of south Africa the common language is English
and the religion is Christianity but south Africa is a very
diverse place with many different religions like Islam
was introduced by the Cape Malay slaves of the Dutch
settlers, Hinduism was introduced by the indentured
labourers imported from the Indian subcontinent, and
Buddhism was introduced by both Indian and Chinese
immigrants.
SUMMARY
All the regions I have been looking at are
very diverse in many ways and this shows
that Africa has many different climates
and biomes that vary in the different
regions. Economy is also something that
varies that can also affect things like
population and health. This truly shows that
Africa is an amazing diverse place.
