by semi-arid areas that
are becoming drier

• The Sahel runs from the Red Sea to the
Atlantic Ocean.
• It separates North Africa’s Sahara Desert
from a semi-arid savanna.
• The Sahel is mostly covered with
grasslands and savanna.
