providing audit, tax and advisory services.
• KPMG have 140,000 employees in 152 countries
worldwide.

Amsterdam, Netherlands .
• KPMG has operated in Saudi Arabia since 1992.
• KPMG in Saudi Arabia has been one of the
fastest growing professional services firms.
Problem Statement
• Breakdowns and possible loss of resources.
• Security threats which is always a major
problem with large networks.
• The speed of internet .
• Network traffic.
Network Classification
• Wired Technologies.
Coaxial Cable.
Consist of copper or aluminum wire wrapped
with insulating layer typically of a flexible
material with a high
dielectric constant.
Network Classification
Twisted Pairs Cable.
Consist of copper wires that are twisted into pairs.
o Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP)
o Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)
Network Classification
• Wireless Technologies.
The transfer of information between two or more points
Wireless LAN.
Links two or more devices
using some wireless
distribution method .
Type of Network Based on
Physical Scope
• Local Area Network.
A small computer network that enables different
computers to connect to each other in the same building.
Type of Network Based on
Physical Scope
• Personal Area Network.
A computer network organized around an individual
person.
Basic Hardware Components
• KPMG network operation needs devices that are
designed to handle certain network functions.
• The devices are often referred to as network
components.
• Each network component has a name that is
related to its functions.
Basic Hardware Components
• Network Interface cards.
Enable the computer to connect to a
network.
• Repeaters .
A network device used to regenerate or
reproduce a signal.
Basic Hardware Components
• Hubs.
Joins multiple computers or other
network devices together to form a single
network segment.
• Bridges.
A device that reduce the amount of traffic
on a LAN by dividing it into two segments.
Basic Hardware Components
• Switches.
Reduce traffic and divide the collision
domain into segments.
• Routers.
Used to connect different LANs or a
LAN with a WAN.
Network Security
• Firewalls.
Protects networked computers from
intentional hostile intrusion .
• Security Technology.
The protection of data, networks
and computing power.
Network Security
• Encryption.
The conversion of data into a form that
cannot be easily understood by
unauthorized people .
• Authentication.
A process in which the user uses a
certain password to access the network.
Recommendations
• KPMG needs to use other strong security systems to protect its
network.
• Recruit expert people who can protect the network .
• If the company connection speed is slow the company should use
Fiber optic and cable internet .
• KPMG must try to develop more effective ways to
secure their network and install strong software.
Summary
• KPMG is multinational corporation that was established in 1987.
• A problem facing KPMG is the breakdowns and loss of resources.
• The wired technologies include twisted pair, and coaxial cable.
• The wireless technologies include wireless local area network.
• The types of networks based on physical scope are LAN and PAN.
• The Basic physical hardware components consist of network
interface cards, repeaters, hubs, bridges, switches, and routers.
• The security of the network in KPMG include using firewalls,
security technology, encryption, and authentication.
• We recommend KPMG to develop effective security system.
