• What is the relationship between force
and motion?

• Acceleration is the rate at which your
velocity (speed with direction) changes.

A car can change its
velocity by speeding
up, slowing down, or
turning.
If an object’s
acceleration is zero,
the object could be
moving at a constant
speed in a straight line
or could be stopped.
• To calculate acceleration, you divide the
change in speed by the amount of time it
takes for the change to happen.

• Force causes acceleration, and mass
resists acceleration.

1. The net force is what causes
acceleration.
2. If there is no acceleration, the net
force must be zero.
3. If there is acceleration, there
must also be a net force.

• An object is in free fall if it is accelerating
due to the force of gravity and no other
forces are acting on it.
