You’ve been assigned to layout a LAN for single building your
organization. The assignment includes:

Layout the LAN
Create a network diagram
Create Bill of Materials (equipment list) w/ quantities and cost
breakdown to include appropriate:

Misc. network hardware (cable routing, connector plates…..)
Rack and cable management hardware
Plan for unused rooms to be populated in future but don’t include that
hardware in your count.
Assume an Ethernet connection is available in the WC that will allow
connection to the Internet.
Assume you have technicians that can fabricate and pull cables. You
must provide tools and connectors.
Future plans include expanding to other buildings on a campus.

– 3 labs.
• LAB 1 - 20 computers - Word Processing, Basic Skills Lab
• LAB 2 - 15 computers - CAD, Graphic Design Lab
• LAB 3 - 30 computers - Software Development Lab
– Building has:
• Dropped ceilings (non plenum)
• Solid walls between classrooms
• Computer desks installed along walls. You need to decide on cable drops and routing in
rooms.
• Computers
– Computers and Printers are provided. You don’t have to select computers or
make any decisions on computers. One networked printer is provided per class
room. HP Color LaserJet 4700 Printer series
– Assume computers are provided. All are same.
– 3 GHz Pentiums, 200 gig hard drives, 4 gig RAM, Windows Vista, 100 Mbit
Ethernet ports.
