LTE: Our LTE solutions have
been deployed in more than 100
capital cities and nine financial
centers. We have deployed 110
commercial networks and own
466 key LTE patents, achieving
the global No.1 position.
5G: Set up 5G innovation and
research centers in nine
countries. Took the lead in
researching air interface links for
5G wireless networks in Europe's
METIS project; projected
investment of US$600 million
over the next five years;
anticipated commercial
deployment of 5G networks in
2020.

Launched the 400G core router
one year ahead of all other
industry peers, which was the
only one of its kind deployed on
a large scale. The router has
been recognized by 53
customers by December 31,
2013 and has world-leading
performance and reliability.
Compared with products with the
same capacity in the industry, our
400G core router consumes 1/8
of the power, occupies 1/6 of the
area, and weighs 1/12 as much.
The first in the industry to launch
the 1T router line card.

Dedicate more efforts to innovations in
basic technologies under the "iceberg"
Strengthen basic research:
In the past, we were mainly engaged in engineering innovation and focused on
product development. Currently, we are strengthening investment in innovating
basic scientific and engineering technologies.
Engage in researching basic scientific
technologies:
The hardware of information products becomes homogeneous, and the
differences of chipsets and software lie in mathematics. We continue to
invest in mathematics. For example, our Russia Research Center has
hired dozens of the world's top mathematicians and made breakthroughs.
Engage in researching basic engineering
technologies:
Heat dissipation, materials, electromagnetic radiation protection, and
high-speed interconnection are basic engineering technologies of the
information industry. With more than 20 years of experience in basic
engineering technologies, we have achieved world-class engineering
capabilities. For example, our Sweden Research Center focuses on
making breakthroughs in wireless engineering technologies.
Huawei considers the full range of global resources and talent pool as a part of its
resources. We have established research centers in Europe, the US, and Japan to
make innovations by leveraging scientist and expert resources worldwide. In
addition, we cooperate extensively with universities and research institutes
worldwide on research and innovation to jointly embrace the future.
Stick to open innovation:
Innovation of
applications and
products
Innovation of basic
technologies
Marathon-like sustained investment in
innovation
over 10%

Continue to invest
of revenue into R&D, which enhances our
competitiveness while propelling the industry and advancing scientific
technologies.

Well-designed incentive mechanisms
attract excellent talent from around the
worldCompetitive compensation



Huawei has collaborated with global consulting firms in conducting regular surveys on
compensation and developing a competitive and non-discriminatory compensation
system.
In 2013, Huawei paid CNY12.5 billion in year-end bonuses to employees.
Huawei has established a sound benefits and health assurance system. In 2013, Huawei
paid CNY6.3 billion in benefits expenditure.
Unique long-term incentive mechanisms


Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): Through its Union, Huawei implements the
ESOP, which involved 84,187 employees (both active and retired) as of December 31,
2013. Mr. Ren Zhengfei's portion accounts for nearly 1.4% of the company's total share
capital.
Time-based Unit Plan (TUP): Huawei has worked out a long-term incentive plan for
employees to suit different legal frameworks. As of today, more than 2,000 non-Chinese
employees in more than 80 countries have participated in this plan.
Career development paths


There are two career development paths at Huawei: managerial and technical paths. We
encourage and coach excellent local employees to develop into mid- and senior-level
managers at Huawei.
We provide multi-channel learning opportunities to employees to help them grow with the
company.
Spiritual incentives: respect, trust, opportunities, and honor
Being dedicated and committed to
bridging the digital divide
Huawei's goal in bridging the digital divide:
connectivity and broadband inclusion for all
Accessible: Work with carriers to solve the wide coverage
problem, thereby enabling 1.5 billion more people (7.5 billion in
total) with access to communications services and another 300
million households (930 million in total) to enjoy broadband
access.
Affordable: Reduce costs by innovating technologies. FBB: $3 to
$5 for each Mbps; NGN: $12 to $8 for each line; tablet and
smartphone: $50 to $300
