What is Cobranet?

Developed by Peak Audio, CobraNet™ is the industry's leading
technology for distributing uncompressed real-time digital audio over a
Fast Ethernet network.
Advantages:

Use of “standard” multi-vendor network (ethernet) and protocol
(cobranet)

Complies to structured cabling principles using Cat5 and GOF

Long line transmission using GOF

Provides open audio interface to mix with other Cobranet products and
systems

Praesideo Cobranet Interface
 Cobranet
is using a fixed peer to peer or multicast routing after
configuration
 Audio
routing is configured via dedicated PC configuration tools and
the Cobranet routing is fixed afterwards
Praesideo routing to a Cobranet Interface is still dynamic

Praesideo Cobranet Interface
No
control functions are transferred via Cobranet



Praesideo Open Interface is needed for control functions via
Ethernet (TCP/IP), using a separate Ethernet switch
Control is only to a Praesideo NCO, not by the NCO
The NCO is an Open Interface slave and a PC Call station can
be the master (for multiple slaves)

Ethernet variations
10 Mbps
Ethernet (not suitable for Cobranet)
100 Mbps
Fast Ethernet
1000 Mbps
Gigabit Ethernet
Use
(managed) switches no hubs
Hubs
Switches



Switch
half-duplex
100Mbps network-wide
data exits all ports regardless
of address



full-duplex
100Mbps in each direction
intelligent forwarding
gives more freedom in network design

Distances all depends on Ethernet limitations and good network design
and used equipment like switches and cabling
CAT5
cabling
Unshielded twisted pair
Fast Ethernet distance limitation is max 100 meter
Multimode

Multiple paths through the fiber
Fast Ethernet (100Base-FX) distance limitation is max 2000 meter

Design rules
Don’t
exceed ethernet available bandwidth
Be conservative
No more than 16 bundles over a 100Mbps link
64 channels total over a half-duplex link
64 channels each direction over a full-duplex link
Don’t
exceed distance limitations
Max 7 switch hops
No loops without Spanning Tree or Meshing capable switches
Observe hop limitations
