Force Review Game
The Story of the “Game Title”
You always thought Mr. B was kidding around when he talked about flying
sharks. Well, you just found out he wasn’t. You have spotted one while on
spring break cruising around the beach. The bad thing is that he has
spotted you too. The good thing is that with your knowledge of physics you
can avoid him!

Game Directions
The goal of the game is to get as
many questions correct as possible.
To play the game you have to
advance along the side walk till you get to
safety. You have to stop on every square.
To win the game you have to get the
most questions correct. As you play make
sure to keep track of how many each
team gets correct.

Time to play “Flying Shark Attack”!
To survie you must travel along your sidewalk path with the least amount of shark attacks!

Game Pieces
The only extra thing needed for this game is for the players to keep
track of who has gotten the most questions correct.

Question #1
The tendency of an object to resist change in its
motion (not wanting to change its motion) is
known as
inertia
mass
force
resistance
Question #2
A net force (an unbalanced force that
changes motion) causes an object to
Stay at the same position
Not move
Accelerate (speed up) or decelerate (slow
down)
None of the above
Question #3
Forces that are equal in size and
opposite in direction are known as
Net forces
Balanced forces
Friction Forces
Normal Force
Question #4
You are riding fast on a skateboard when
your wheel suddenly gets stuck in a crack on
the sidewalk. Why does your body go flying
forward?
there is a net force pushing you off your
skateboard
your inertia keeps you moving forward
someone pushed you
I have no clue
Question #5
You just collected a huge bag of leaves in your
yard, and you need to move it out to the curb.
How could you get the bag to move faster?
use more force (push harder)
take some leaves out to make it weigh less
(make it lighter)
both of the above would work (both pushing
harder and making it lighter)
Wait till it’s warmer outside
Question #6
The force that pulls falling objects toward Earth is called
gravity.
free fall.
acceleration due to gravity
weight
Question #7
The force that one surface exerts on
another when the two rub against each
other is called
normal.
acceleration.
inertia.
friction.
Question #8
Which of the following is an example
of increasing friction intentionally?
throwing sand on an icy driveway
Waxing skis
adding grease to gears on a bike
Question #9
In science, a push or a pull is called a(n)
force
acceleration
inertia
projectile
Question #10
According to Newton’s third law of
motion, when a hammer strikes and
exerts force on a nail, the nail
moves at a constant speed.
creates a friction with the hammer.
disappears into the wood.
exerts an equal force back on the hammer.
Question #11
Objects falling through air experience a
type of friction called
air resistance
terminal velocity.
inertia.
free fall
Question #12
If you are launching a matchstick rocket, the action
force is the rocket pushing the gases down. What is
the reaction force?
The table pushing the rocket down.
The gases pushing the rocket down.
The gases pushing the rocket up.
None of the above
Question #13
To keep a heavy box sliding across a carpeted floor at
constant speed, a person must continually exert a force on
the box. This force is used primarily to overcome which of
the following forces?
The weight of the box
The frictional force exerted by the floor on the
box
Air resistance
Equilibrium
Question #14
How much one force overpowers the
others on an object is called the
____________________ force.
friction
net
gravity
bat
Question #15
If the action force is a bat hitting a ball, the
reaction force would be the ball hitting the
____________________.
friction
net
gravity
bat
Question #16
The downward force acting on an
object in free fall is the force of
____________________.
friction
net
gravity
bat
Question #17
A parachute allows a skydiver to fall more
slowly because the parachute has more
____________________.
friction
net
gravity
bat
Question #18
What is another name for Newton’s first law?
Law of gravity
Law of inertia
Law of friction
Law of density
Question #19
Friction is defined as____
Force that opposes motion between two
surfaces that are touching
Rate at which velocity changes
Resistance of an object to change in its
velocity
Speed of an object in a particular direction
Question #20
If a woman has a mass of 36 kg, calculate
her weight in Newtons.
79.2 lbs
352.8 N
3.66 N
none of these are correct
Question #21
Calculate the acceleration of a 75 kg
crate of softball gear moving sideways
with a force of 200N.
0.375 m/s/s
9.81 m/s/s
2.67 m/s/s
15000 m/s/s
Question #22
Newton’s third law states____.
Whenever a force is exerted, another force
occurs that is the same in size and
opposite in direction.
Free fall is when only gravity is acting on an
object.
P=mxv
F=mxa
Question #23
In Newton’s third law, one force is called
the _____ force and the other is the _____
force.
reaction; gravity
Action; friction
action; gravity
action; reaction
Question #24
If a tire pushing against the road is an action
force, what is the reaction force?
the sun
Gravity
the road
none of the above
Question #25
Mass is measured in _______.
Kilograms
grams
pounds
ounces
Question #26
The SI unit for force is ______.
Joule
Newton
Pascal
photon
Question #27
Find the mass of a person who weighs 608 N
62 kg
62 g
620 kg
620 g
Question #28
Joe is the best baseball player in the world. He can
throw a baseball faster than anyone. If the mass of the
baseball was increased by 50%, but he applied the
same force as he did to a lighter baseball, which of
these would best describe Joe's attitude?
Joe would love to use the new ball in future
baseball games.
Joe would be unhappy as the new ball would
have a slower acceleration.
Joe would be happy as the new ball would
have a faster acceleration.
Joe's attitude would not change as there would
be no change in the acceleration.
Question #29
A 267.5 N unbalanced force applied to push a
stuffed chair across the room, causing an acceleration of
4.2ms2. What is the mass of the chair?
26.75 kg
63.69 kg
263.3 kg
1123.5 kg
Question #30
A 10.0 kilogram mass of iron on earth exerts a
downward force of 98 Newtons. On the moon this same
10.0 kilograms of iron is weighed and found to exert a
downward force of 16.3 Newtons. How is this possible?
Weight is the same everywhere, but mass
changes.
The earth is farther away reducing the pull.
The gravity on the moon is one sixth the
gravity of Earth.
Mass begins to evaporate in the vacuum of
space.
Congratulations! The flying
shark missed you.
