Local Mobility Anchor Resolution
for Proxy Mobile IPv6

DIME WG session
28th July 2009
IETF#75, Stockholm
Background
• Diameter PMIPv6 operation specified in the DIME WG
– draft-ietf-dime-pmip6
• Specifies inter alia an extension between Local Mobility
Anchor (LMA) and AAA
– Mobility Session Authorization
– Assignment/Validation of a unique Home Network Prefix (HNP)
for mobile terminals
• AAA policy store maintains valuable information for
future mobility use cases (IDs, LMA, HNP, etc.)
– Predestined entity to request information from

LMA1 may want to know LMA2‘s IP address:
• As forwarding information
• To send signaling to LMA2
(e.g. for route optimization)

Status of the Problem Statement...
• NetExt WG has Localized Routing
(aka Route Optimization) for PMIPv6 on its charter
• Multi-LMA scenario in scope
(to be approved on Thursday)
• Some solution drafts require LMA resolution
– draft-loureiro-netext-pmipv6-ro-01.txt
– draft-wu-netext-local-ro-02.txt
• Diameter Query could provide useful hook to support
Multi-LMA use cases, e.g. for Localized Routing
• May become of interest to the DIME WG (?)
– draft-liebsch-dime-pmip6-lmaresolve-00.txt still cooks...
