IP in the 3G Wireless
• ATIS is working extensively on IP based wireless
capabilities (in collaboration with other Partners
in 3GPP)
• IP is supported in handsets, radio access
network, and core network
• Throughput is mainly dependent on radio access
technology (GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA)
• Close coordination with IETF on IP based
services
• IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem)
• WLAN Interworking

• Baseline IMS has been designed
– SIP/SDP adopted as call control protocol
– DIAMETER adopted for authentication,
authorization, accounting, profile download
– COPs adopted for QoS/Policy control
