PRINTING CONCEPTS AND TERMINOLOGY
 Printer –physical device that prints
 Logical printer- software config that is
created in windows. Represented by an icon
 Printer driver- controls the printer

PRINTING CONCEPTS AND TERMINOLOGY
(CONTINUED)
 Print server- printer is physically attached to a
printer server and shared out on the network.
 Print spooling- saving a print job to the hard disk
before sending it to the printer. Increases
productivity.
 Print router – When a user prints to a network
printer, the print router locates a remote print
provider that can be used.
 Print processor- Software that makes any
necessary modifications to the print job and then
call on the GDI to further render the job.

PRINT JOB FORMATS
 RAW- ready to be printed, no further processing
required.
 RAW [FF appended]- Same as RAW, except that a
form-feed character needs to be appended to the
end of the print job.
 RAW [FF auto] – Similar to the above, but
automatically adds a form-feed character.
 EMF – Enhanced Metafile format.
 TEXT – ANSI text data.
