Development of ICT in Azerbaijan
At the World Summit, spent in Geneva on December,10-12,2003 Mr.
Ilham Aliyev, the president of Azerbaijan Republic, has appreciated the
true value of activities, spent in republic in the IKT field and has
especially noted determining role IKT in economic policy.
The basic directions of the program are:
development of a telecommunication and information infrastructure;
preparation of the legislative environment for transition to new IKT
system;
creation of the state regulating committee in this field;
creation and development the electronic government ;
questions, concerning the safety of the information;
and development the scientific and technical base.

Cooperation of AzRENA with other structures
AzNET for Science and Education
The AzNET is the Azerbaijan Scientific Educational Computer
Network registered Union, founded by 4 Azerbaijan
Universities and two International organizations on the base of
infrastructure created in frame of IREX/IATP and OSI Internet
Development projects in 1999.
Currently the network connects 18 organizations (universities,
libraries and international organizations of ICT development) in
Baku and regions of Azerbaijan. More than 500 workstations
and more than 10 000 users registered and having access to the
Internet resources through AzNET.

Organization
This project aims to strengthen and extend the national IP research and
academic network in Azerbaijan for the benefit of development actors
throughout the country, and especially those working in education, science and
technology as well as the not for profit sector.
The project will open up and facilitate opportunities for exchanges, learning and
collaboration between learners, educators and the scientific, research and
academic community as well as the development community in Azerbaijan and

their international colleagues and peers around the world.
