Intelligent Building Rating System
Chair: Tom Lohner – TENG Solutions
-an evaluation and assessment protocol and a
guide for integrated intelligent building
technologies. The aim is to increase market
penetrability of intelligent building technology
with building owners and designers and the real
estate industry by demonstrating value and
providing guidance.
-Building Intelligence Quotient (BIQ)
www.caba.org
BIQ Issues
• Identify Major Building Intelligence
Components
• Group Logically
• Assess Relative Value from Industry
Stakeholders
• Develop Background Material “Content”
for each Component
– Develop Ranking Criterion
• Develop Web Based Tool

Life-Cycle Costs Analysis Tool
Chair – Thom Keel – Ph.D. Student - Georgia
Institute of Technology
- develop a white paper on the “Life Cycle Costs
of Integrated - Open Standards Based Building
Technologies” as compared to traditional
stand-alone closed system buildings. A
parametric model will be created for both new
and renovated buildings. The goal is to
analyze the individual operating and
maintenance costs and develop supporting
documentation for each cost to lend credibility
to final net present value (NPV) comparisons.
www.caba.org
TF - 3 Next Steps
• Obtain Feedback From TF – 3 on
White Paper
• Promote BAS – LCC Survey !!
• Complete Development of Tool
• Promote Tool and Educate
• Completion Date – October ’05’

Industry Roundtable
2005 – Beyond; Focus Areas
• oBIX Collaboration
Should we Focus on XML / IB Applications?
• Should we Partner w/ Other Building
Technologies? (Lighting, Security, Power,
etc.)?
If so How?
• Items Identified in David Hansen’s
Presentation
