About Copper and Agracopper
Diarrhea Control, Immunity Modulation,
and Antibiotics Reduction
- Typically, for this purpose the diets contain zinc oxide and/or copper sulphate as
sources for inorganic minerals.
- They are added in great quantities because they re-combine and about 75% to
95% is lost in the digestive tract, by excreting to the outside, losing and creating
contamination and bad odor in the environment.
- Its use also occupies much space in the formula.
- This also affects acidity on the stomach of the
monogastrics.
The Reason to Microencapsulate
the Cooper Sulphate (Agracooper)
- The metabolism and Cu’s absortion is affected by Molybdenum,Sulfur, Calcium,
Iron, Manganesium, Zinc, Cobalt, Lead, Cadmium and Selenium.
- Formation of unavailable molybdates, which are generated in the stomach/
proventriculus due to the interaction between molybdenum with copper and
sulfur, reduce the availability of Cu due to its transformation into copper sulfure
(J. Benitez 2011).
- With the use of aa synthetic, the absortion of CU can become depressed (D.
Mahan, et. al., 2010).
- Agracopper, while being 100% protected, does not suffer loses by interactions
with other minerals and the synthetic aa in diets.
Certified Quality
There is currently a tremendous amount of research going into
antimicrobial effects of copper. It is believed that copper has the ability to kill
harmful bacteria through a multi-faceted approach. The thought is that contact of
the bacterium with the surface damages the cell membrane, or outer envelope of
the cell by several mechanisms. This makes the bacterium “leaky” as it loses
water and with it, many soluble essential nutrients and salts. Furthermore, copper
ions released from the surface can enter the cell uninhibitedly and by this action
will help to enhance the effect of AGP used in the Feed. In addition, this supports
our innovative concept of Agracopper which protects the copper sulfate from
forming complexes with other minerals in the feed and dissociation in the Stomach.
The multi-target effect of Agracopper makes resistance extremely unlikely as
copper ion kills bacteria very quickly and leaves almost no survivors. This is due to
the fact that there is neither the time for bacteria to “learn” how to resist copper or
the possibility to pass on any knowledge to a significant population of survivors.
Copper remains essential to bacteria and bacterial resistance is typically observed
against non-essential components such as many of the antibiotic growth
promoters in animal Feed. Resistance to copper ion, which is recognized by the
cell as a needed nutrient, is extremely unlikely.
Finally , we are very confident that Agracopper in poultry feed will act to
potentiate the effectiveness of AGP , to further increase gut health and lower the
incidence of Necrotic Enteritis.

Cooper Sulphate vs. Agracopper
- Frequently copper sulphate is included as a promoter of growth or fungicide
because it is very economical, applying 500 grams of copper sulphate (125 g of
copper) by metric ton MT. In case of severe infections caused by fungus, you
get to use 1 kilogram of copper sulphate (250 g of cooper) by MT.
- It is reported that levels of 250 ppm of Cu, already can cause poisoning in
poultry and the presence of gizzard’s erosion. (M. Contreras y D. Zaviezo).
- Gizzard’s erosion (GE)..…can be caused by presence of micotoxins in the feed,
polisaturated acids, high levels of cooper, diets defficient in Vitamin K and
defficiency in methionine, among others.
- Jensen et al.(1991) induced oral lesions in poultry while supplementing copper
sulphite in diets. Incidence and severity of the oral lesions showed a linear
increase as the cooper sulphate’s concentrations were increased. Severity of
GE also increased with the concentration of cooper sulphate.
- Vitamins are by far the most labile nutrients since they are harmed at a great or
low degree by a variety of factors, such as:
Heat, Light, Oxigen, Acids, Alcaloids, Reducing Agents, Oxidating Agents,
metallic agents, etc.
- Vitamin B1 is unstable to pH neutral and alcaline pH, catalyzed by metallic ions
such as cooper and totally destroyed by sulphites… vitamin C is the most
sensitive of vitamins, it is labile in presence of metallic ions specially cooper
(J. King y S. de Pablo, 1987).
Selecting the Source of Cooper Sulphite
- When cooper sulphite is used, it is extremely important to select a good source
which does not cause lumps, thus avoiding mistakes upon weighing and
blending which can provoke an excessive ingestion.

The lipid matrix protects it upon passing through the stomach and slowly releases
it, through the extension of the small intestine and other elements which really
affect the traditional cooper sulphate.
This allows the effect of copper sulphate to take place throughout the small and
large intestine, and upon being slowly released, it has a maximum effect in the
intestinal microflora.
Agracopper virtually is not excreted to the outside, thus reducing contamination of
the environment. It does not affect acidity of the digestive tract on monogastrics.

Antibacterial effect of Agracopper
A high level of inclusion of Zn and Cu diminshes the activity of
pathogens bacteria. (Ole Hojberg et al, 2005).
Bivalent cations of Zn ion (Zn ++) and Cu (Cu ++) seem to have an affinity with
the linking sites of E. coli.
Zn ion and Cu, preferably link to glycoprotein and to glycolipid of the intestinal wall,
which present negative charges.
E. coli cannot find any union site to adhere, penetrate and generate toxicity in the
tissue in question.
For this purpose the zinc/cooper ion shall be easily released at the proper time and
place.

The Cell Adhesion Molecules (CAMs) are proteins located on the cell surface
involved in the process of adhesion to other cells or the extracellular matrix in a
process called "cell adhesion".
Cu ions get to block the joints between the Virus and the cell membrane’s CAMs,
thus reducing the infection of epithelial cells in the intestine.
On the other hand, once the ions adhere to CAMs, they can also block the joints
between them and the immune cells that cause inflammation, regulating the flow of
these cells to the intestinal epithelium thus preventing allergies due to excessive
immune responses.

Mode of Action
Due to the progressive
liberation of free copper ions in
the intestine where it’s needed,
the copper effect is improved
dramatically.
The lipids of vegetable
origin that form the coating
Agracopper are degraded by pancreatic
of
lipase when the product reaches the
duodenum. Subsequently the copper is
slowly liberated in the small intestine. In
this way, the distal part of the small intestine
becomes the place for obtaining micro flora
modulating effect.
