SG-MY Satellite Link
This Multipoint-to-Multipoint Video Conferencing System uses IGMP
multicasting for efficient transmission of real-time multimedia data.
Multicasting greatly reduces multimedia traffic compared to
conventional unicast traffic, thus improving bandwidth utilization.
Project Partner:
•Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
•MeaSAT provides free 2 Mbps
satellite bandwidth

SG-JP Link
TCP/IP protocol is designed to work with terrestrial copper or fibreoptic transmission medium. Its performance degrades over satellite
link due to the inherent propagation delay over satellites. The setup
below will study the performance issues faced by TCP/IP protocol
over satellite link, and enable tests to be conducted to verify
improvements in modified TCP/IP protocol over satellite link

AI3 Project: Web Caching
Caching is a technique used to improve the performance of internet
access by buffering the recently accessed web objects for future
access. In the Asia Internet Interconnection Initiatives (AI3)
grouping, a web cache bone is conceived to control and more
efficiently utilize the satellite bandwidth consumption by web traffic.

AI3 Project: Multicast Internet Traffic over Satellite
The advantage that Satellite transmission media has over
cable or point-to-point terrestrial link is its ability to
broadcast. Multicast or group addressing ensures that
registered members of a group receive the Internet traffic with
the same transmission, thus saving bandwidth
Technology:
DVMRP, PIM, Multicast Tunnel
Applications:
Video Conferencing, Video
Streaming, Distance Learning,
Web Caching

AI3 Project: Internet Protocol Version 6
Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) looks set to be the successor
to the current version of Internet Protocol, ie IPv4.
IPv6 offers numerous benefits including 128-bit addressing
(compared to IPv4’s 32-bit), auto address configuration, and
elaborate security features (IPSec)
