1516
8.22.1 – Direct Loan Streamlining. BBAY processing.
Fixed some issues with EDE and COD processing edits.
The release guide is 405 pages and it took two webinars
to cover it – those are major changes.

8.23 – Due at the end of April. COD updates for 1516.
You must have 8.22 installed before you can install 8.23.

A Side Track
RNASL15 – Yes, you can override information on this
screen. Before entering the form, change the source to
manual, then do next block. A warning box will pop up.
Say ok. You can now make changes and save. This will
be the current record until a new transaction gets
loaded. You may have to make the manual record
current again.

Still On A Side Track
Why do I have to update RNASL15? Banner uses NSLDS
history. If a previous school processed a Pell or loan and
then sent corrections to COD, the corrections may not
happen in NSLDS for months. COD is the authority
since they receive the change immediately. Update
RNASL15 to match COD so Banner can award or
disburse the fund.

Don’t Trip Over Roots
Continuing on the path to period-based awarding.
Now includes Direct Lending.
Don’t forget to allow period accept/decline on the web
(self-service).
RFRMGMT, ROAMGMT, RFRMUPD (mass update).

Look Out For Stumps
There is a new tab on ROASTAT.
Period Status Tab added.
The lock indicator will prevent the Banner Year in College
from being overridden during batch posting or other
automatic processes.
Banner will still use Banner Year In College from
RNANA16 if no Algorithmic rules are present.
The alternative is to use algorithmic rules to calculate
the Period Year In College (RORALGO) and batch post it.

SAY, How Does That Work?
SAY is meant to be a guide by which COD determines
the length of the academic year for that student.
The rule of thumb is that the SAY can be longer than the
period but should not be shorter.
Fall-only and spring-only would have a SAY equal to
fall/spring so each reflects 50% of a year.
If you add summer, you have to increase the SAY to
include summer so you don’t go over 100% of an
academic year.
13
West Virginia Network
Crossing Over The Stream
Summer is a crossover period whether it crosses the aid
year or not.
Go over the examples provided in the release guide for
more help.
If you have different aid periods with different start/end
times, use a new SAY for those so correct usage
percentages are used by COD.
Two places to mark ‘crossover’ – RORPRDS (required)
and RORSAYR (required).

Stray Breadcrumb
If you have paid a fund, you can’t change the aid period
so you’re stuck with the SAY that’s already there.
If you need to update the SAY to include different
periods for a DL Sub loan, you can enter an override SAY
on the bottom of RPAAWRD.
Keep that 8.22.1 release guide handy for its examples.

On The Horizon
8.23 will bring us MPN functionality.
8.23 will deliver RERIM16 that will load incoming MPN
files.
View the MPN on RLADMPN (RLRDMPN table).
Status codes will alert the user to the exact status of the
MPN. See page 169 -170 of the 8.22.1 release guide for
details.

Some Simple Rules
Direct Loan MPN Rules tab is new on ROAUSIO.
Set up rules by loan type.
When do you want to create MPN requirement –
Awarding, Acceptance, Origination, Never?
Displays on RRAAREQ (Direct Loan MPN’s tab) and
ROASMRY (Promissory Notes tab).
Note that RRAAREQ allows you to customize instructions
by student.

Finally, A Clear Path
Direct Loan processing has been completely separated
from Manual and Electronic loans.
PLUS borrower data can be used from year to year
without re-entering.
Changes can be made on RPAAWRD and the origination
record will ‘sync up’ without manual intervention.
BBAY processing is supported.

A Footprint
REACODS replaces REASTID beginning in 1516.
Gets created with the first origination for DL, Pell, or
TEACH.
Contains more information than REASTID.
Not aid year specific.
Use ‘duplicate record’ to make a new record and make
manual updates if needed.

Fledging The Nest

It will feed the fees to the origination process based on
date of the first disbursement.
Prefilled with fees up to 10/01/14.
Future updates will be manually entered.
Banner will display a disbursement error if the fee and
disbursement date are no longer a match.
