Function Details (I)
PLC Network and Enhanced Network Functionality (ENF)
based on SIMAC technology SM6401:
 Dynamic frequency search
 Dynamic change of modulation schemes (BPSK, FSK, S-FSK) to
ensure robust communications in noisy environments
 Standard protocols (TCP/IP, RS 232 / 485, M-Bus, etc.)
 Dynamic frequency change based on the possibility to use 8 different
frequencies in the CENELC A, B and C bands, enabling the system to
manage line noise on the line that may impact data transmission.
 Auto discovery to speed up roll-out process
 Remote update using the SM6401’s remotely reconfigurable FLASH
memory
Protocol Implementation to multiple Meters / Sensors / Actuators:
 Standard Meter Protocols: ANSI C12.19/19, DLMS/COSEM, ModBus
via RS232 / RS485
 Standard wireless Protocol: wireless MBus
 Proprietary Protocols

Function Details (II)
STIP (Smart Telemetric-data Integration Platform) as an AMR / AMI
System:
 Management/Administration of all components and devices in the RF/PLC
network (meters, concentrators, streetlight nodes, etc.)
 detailed meta-information like device type, site information with GPS
position
 operational data like meter values, historical data
 GUI to manage all components of the
network and to give an overview of
the status and data of each device.
 Interfaces: APIs, database links, services
to MDM, Billing, CRM systems
GK SES solution for application fields like:
 Smart Metering / Smart Grid,
 Streetlight,
 Facility Management

Solution Highlights (I)
Smart Metering
•
•
•
•
Streetlight
•
•
•
•
Is one of the most important assets of a
city, consumes up to 40% of the
municipal expenditures for electricity
PLC Smart Streetlight reduces costs,
maintenance resources, CO2
More flexibility for individual lightning
Easy to install, integration in existing
installations

Any kind of meter installation can be
managed by a smart PLC technology
PLC uses existing network for data
transfer, no additional cabling and
infrastructure
PLC is bi-directional, so meters can be
turned on/off remotely
PLC based Smart Metering in
combination with Smart Grid helps
detecting energy theft
Solution Highlights (II)
Smart Grid
•
•
•
•
PLC technology helps to manage and optimize
LV / MV grids
Meters / sensors can be placed at any site of
the grid
Low cost installation with PLC
PLC based GRID Management in combination
with Smart Metering helps detecting energy
theft
Facility Management
• Energy reduction / increasing energy efficiency in
buildings can be measured and managed by PLC
technology
• Easy and low cost installation of sensors and
actuators
• Ideal for existing buildings, with longer distances for
data communication (campus)
• no additional cabling, no radio frequency

Most Robust Communications
Use Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple
Access (OFDMA, or Multi Access OFDM) to
combine time division and frequency division.
This is achieved by splitting up the carriers into
groups to form channels.
Each channel can operate independently and
therefore can receive packets from many
different transmitters at the same time.
