Ancient Roman Baths
 Instead of single person baths, in ancient Rome, there
were large houses for bathing.
What Were They For?
 Public bathing was a part of every day life for the
Romans
 They were used for much more than just hygiene, such
as recreation
Visiting the baths
 In present day millions of people visit the bath, you
can look but can’t swim.
When baths were created
 The Celts made the first Public Bath.
 Dedicated to the goddess Sulis

 In ancient Rome, public bathing was the way to go, it
was accepted by everyone.

 Men us the bath after work. And then women would
use it.

 Wealthy Romans sometimes had private bath houses
but they were open to the public for a fee

 First they went to a changing room to change from
street clothes to bathing clothes

 After exercise, the Romans removed dirt and oils with
the strigil

 The heat from the baths were coming from under the
baths.
 Slaves used fire to heat the baths.
