




Born 31st of August AD 12 at Antium (25 miles south of
Rome)
Father Germanicus was the nephew of Tiberius
1 of 6 children
Father was Germanicus and Mother was Agrippa the
elder
Caligula means little boots
Reign





Initially Caligula was supposed to rule with his cousin
Gemellus however he declared the will null and seized
power
In power from 37 AD to 41 AD
In 37 AD Caligula became extremely ill however he did
manage to make a recovery
Went with the military in Gaul
Almost caused a rebellion in Palestine
Accomplishments





38 AD put to death his main supporter Marco and
young Tiberius
39AD brought back the treason trials
Ordered that an alter be built to himself
Nearly forced the public treasury into bankruptcy
Built a bridge in the Bay of Naples with boats
Death
 The
conspiracy that lead to his death was
started in the Praetorian Guard
 Killed January 14th in 41 AD
 He had ruled for almost 4 years when he
was assassination
 28 years old
 Claudius came to power after him







Rumored to have epilepsy
His favorite horse, Incitatus, was supposedly named part of the
senate
He was the first direct descendent of Augustus to take the
throne
He forced his father- in -law Gaius Silanus to commit suicide
His favorite sister was Dursilla
He had no experience in administration beyond honorary
quaestorship (Roman financial administrator)
