Roman Empire?
The Fall
The Roman Empire splits
End of the Pax Romana
• After Caesar’s death
there is a peaceful time
called: Pax Romana (meaning
Roman Peace)
• This does not last long
– Emperors don’t rule long
b/c: They are killed
– In 50 yrs there are 26
emperors; only one dies a
natural death
Two Emperors attempt reform
• Diocletian splits Rome b/c: The
Empire is too big for one man to rule
– Empire is divided into East &
West
– Keeps the Wealthy East
• Constantine
– Renames the capital
Constantinople.
– Christians had been exiled in
Rome. Constantine welcomes
them back.
Enter the Huns…
• Rome is weakened by
1) Civil War
2) Civilian Uprising
3) Political Fighting
• Rome becomes an easy
target for: nomadic invaders
– Hun, from Asia, sack
Rome
– Leader is Attila the Hun
Christians believe God:
sent him to punish Rome for
its sins
