dictator of Rome.
The First Triumvirate
• Caesar first came to
power with the help of:
• Crassus- a wealthy
Roman
• Pompey- a popular
general
• These three ruled Rome
for ten years as the first
Triumvirate.
Second Triumvirate
• Octavian, Mark
Antony, and Lepidus
ruled Rome for ten
years.
• Their alliance ended
with jealousy and
violence
Octavian, Caesar's adopted son
Octavian becomes Augustus
• Octavian
became the sole ruler of Rome
in 27 B.C.- changed name to Augustus
•Added the title “imperator” meaning
supreme military commander.
Rome becomes an Empire

prosperity lasted
