How can we describe the culture of ancient
Rome? Warm up: copy the following notes
Trade
was very successful in
the empire (trade prospered!!)
-- largely because of the huge
network of roads the Romans
built. In addition, the
government charged zero taxes
on trade within the empire in
order to keep a steady supply
of diverse goods flowing.
How can we describe the culture of ancient
Rome?
 You
will be divided into 3 groups.
 Each group will have a research focus
(religion, social norms, or innovations)
of Roman during the time period 500100 BC.
 Each group will need to answer the
prompts for their assigned topic.
 The topics and prompts will be handed
out to you now. You will have 25
minutes to answer the prompts.

 Religion:
1. What type of religion did the
Romans follow? 2. What were some of the
traditions or ways to worship in their
religion? Where did they practice their
religion?
 Social
Norms: 1. Describe a common Roman
city. 2. Describe some daily activities of a
Roman. 3. Describe some buildings or
places that Romans may visit.
 Innovations:
1. Describe an architectural
innovation. 2. Describe innovations related
to entertainment. 3. Describe innovations
that were used daily by citizens.

As groups present their
findings, we will read over that
section of the notes, then you
will add any new information to
that section of the notes.
