Barbarian Invasions
The invasions into Roman territory
took place over a period of 300 years.
Romans treated the barbarians badly
because they were different.
Internal problems allowed the
barbarians to eventually reach the
heart of the empire.
The western part of the empire fell
apart in 476 while the eastern part
lasted for another 1000 years.
Growth of the Church
As the Roman Empire got weaker,
Christianity continued to get stronger
because many of the barbarians were
Christian.
Pagan Romans blamed the Christians
for the decline of the empire because
the Christian God did nothing to protect
the empire.
When the western part of the empire
fell, the church continued to be strong.
