aristocratic dictatorships
(“tyranny”) with government by

(“democracy”)
One polis in particular, Athens,
rises to prominence following its
defeat of Persian (Iranian) invaders
(c. 490-470 BCE)

Founded “The Academy,” a
philosophical school in Athens in
which many young men (including
Aristotle, 384-322 BCE) studied
