How to Help Your Child with
Homework:
Provide a distraction-free place to do homework
Turn off ALL electronics during homework time
Record questions your child has on the homework but
do not do it for them
Do not let homework ruin your life! Let the teacher
know if you are having big trouble
How to help your child with
Social Needs:
• Look for little opportunities to listen
– Turn off your phone when going somewhere
– Ask questions that cannot be answered with a yes or no
• “What was the best thing that happened today?”
• Monitor social media (yes, even in elementary school!)
• If you hear about something happening at school, email
the teacher.
– Our school psychologist, Jeanette Smith, can help
– We have a new program that can provide support, called
“Special Friends.” Helps kids with social skills.
– Counselor for students with special needs
