octopuses. The giant octopus
lives in the Pacific Ocean.

no bones. An octopus has 8
arms or tentacles. If an
octopus loses a tentacle, then
a new arm grows in its place.
The life of an octopus is very
short. Many octopuses live for
less than one year. Though
the largest octopus can live for
3 years.
Shark

different kinds of sharks that live
all around the world. The whale
shark is not only the largest shark
in the world, it is also the largest
fish in the world. Whale sharks
may grow up to 40 feet long and
weigh over 14 tons. While the
smallest of sharks measures
around 6 inches long and weighs

Whale
The whale is a mammal. The blue
whale is the largest animal that has
ever lived. Blue whales can measure
up to 100 feet long and weigh over
200 tons. Whales use lungs to
breathe, and must surface to get air.
The sperm whale can hold its breath
for 75 minutes at a time.
Major kinds of whales. There are
two major kinds of whales. The baleen
whale has hundreds of thin plates in its
mouth instead of teeth. These baleen
act as a strainer to filter food out of the
water. Baleen whales eat plankton.
The second major kind of whale is the
toothed whale, which eats fish,
cuttlefish and squid.
