Lions Mane Jellyfish
BY: BRETT
Do you know what a lions
Mane Jellyfish is? It’s a Jellyfish.
That’s who I’m going talk about in
this report. Your going to be an
expert about the Lions Mane
Jellyfish after this.
Classification
Do you know what makes a Lions Mane
Jellyfish a invertebrate? You guessed it, it
has no bones! First of all it is shaped like a
upside down bowl. That part is the only part
of the body that doesn’t sting, it is called the
bell. The tentacles are arranged in groups of
eight and there are about 1000 tentacles. The
tentacles can be 120 feet long! The tentacles
are dark red. The Lions Mane Jellyfish is cold
blooded and is made up of 95% of water. It
also doesn’t have a brain.
Habitat
This is a awesome second big idea it’s
the habitat! One habitat is the upper part of
Atlantic Ocean. Its area is 1 mile across. It
also floats at the top of the Artic Circle. It
also floats at the top of the Pacific Ocean.
Food and Feeding
Do you know what a Lions Mane
Jellyfishes favorite thing to do? Its eating,
because if they don’t eat they will die. The
Lions Mane Jellyfish eats zooplankton and
tiny, tiny fish. It also eats crustaceans and
other Jellyfish.
Life Cycle
A life cycle is a organisms life. The organisms
starts small at the beginning of the life cycle.
Then at the end of the life cycle the organism
is big. During the reproduction the male
releases a sperm through the mouth. The first
stage of a Lions Mane Jellyfish is the planula
larva. The second stage is the polyp. The third
stage is the budding polyp. The fourth stage is
the ephyra. Finally, the last stage and it is the
medusa.
Adaptations
Adaptations here, adaptations there, adaptations
everywhere!!! Now swim over here and you’ll be in
a world of adaptations. Adaptations are a physical
or behavioral things that help a organism survive,
and perhaps the adaptations that I’m going to tell
you is from a Lions Mane Jellyfish. These are
physical adaptations. The Lions Mane Jellyfish is
cold blooded so it can stay in its environment. The
Lions Mane Jellyfish has tentacles so when a
predator comes it can sting the predator and kill it.
These are behavioral adaptations. The Lions Mane
Jellyfish floats at the top of the water to catch
YUMMY food. The Lions Mane Jellyfish extends its
tentacles like a trap to catch food essayer.
Do you think you’re an expert about
the Lions Mane Jellyfish? I thought so.
Lets quickly go over the big idea’s. First,
classification. Second, habitat. Third, food
and feeding. Fourth, life cycle. Finally,
adaptations. You listen very well to the
report on the Lions Mane Jellyfish!
