How to Graduate with an Honors Diploma:
Students who score at or above all of the subject area readiness
benchmarks on the ACT (or equivalent score on the SAT) will
graduate with honors.
ACT College Readiness Benchmark Scores:
English – 18 Mathematics – 22 Reading – 22 Science – 23
College Readiness Benchmark Scores for the ACT represent median test
scores that are predictive of student success in relevant college courses.
“Success” is defined as a 50 percent or higher probability of earning a B
or higher in the corresponding college course or courses.
A 3.0 or above qualifies for a Walker Valley Honors Diploma
DIPLOMA OF DISTINCTION
Graduating with Distinction
Tennessee graduates who maintain a B average and complete an additional
approved credential will graduate with distinction. Approved credentials
include:
Nationally recognized industry certification (16 are offered at Walker Valley)
Tennessee Governor's School
All-State musical organization*
National Merit finalist or semi-finalist
A composite score of 31 or higher on the ACT
A core of 3 or higher on two AP exams
12 or more hours of transcripted post-secondary credit
CIRCLE OF CHAMPIONS

Students should apply to Circle of Champions EACH Year.
Applications should be completed online (March 20 is the
absolute deadline)

Students MUST turn in their Service Hour Forms to
Guidance by March 18. NO EXCEPTIONS.
CREDIT RECOVERY
Students need to complete Credit Recovery as soon as available
please make sure your student has ALL Credit Recovery classes
completed.
We have 55 seniors who need to complete Credit Recovery
Credit Recovery is available only in the core areas.
Start date January 26th.
Credit Recovery meets Tuesday – Friday 7:40 – 8:10
Monday - Tuesday - Thursday After School 3:30 – 4:30
Monday/Tuesday/Thursday at 1:30 by signing up with Ms. Howard
We will also offer a few Saturdays this spring from 8:00 – 11:30
WHAT TO DO
Your child should check with his/her counselor, Mr. Jackson, to check his/her
credit situation.

They should check to see if there is an opportunity for Credit Recovery.
If this is not an option they should be checking for opportunities to make up
the class.
Remember there are 28 credits required to graduate
NOW IS THE TIME
Look at post-secondary choices based on the program of study in
which your student wants to major / study.
Look at information the college / technical school requires and when
it is due so it will not slip up on you.
Be academically prepared.
Look at the future, check out the career your child is interested in and
find out what it takes for that to be a career choice.
Research Post-secondary opportunities and scholarships.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO
REMEMBER
Be involved with their choice of college / technical school, their choice of
career and their choice of friends.
Keep up with their grades on the Parent Portal
Do not let students think of taking their senior year second semester off,
challenge them to work hard.
Keep in touch with their teachers.
Watch our website, there is important information on there for you.
