Learners are provided with a multiple choice test to
test their understanding of basic data collection
techniques, the different measuring instruments
and scales and their usage
Answers are verified in a group discussions
In a group, determine the criteria for poverty (e.g
capital income, access to basic needs, employment,
education) as well as relevant characteristics of the
target group required for the research study.
Design appropriate questions using different
measuring instruments and scales
As a group present the questionnaire to the
facilitator for comments and recommendations
Include facilitator’s recommendation in the
questionnaire
Obtain assistance to have the questionnaire typed
and copied for further use in data collection
Collect data in your community by means of the
questionnaire
Topic assessment criteria
The assessor will observe and confirm
that learners:
• Are able to list the basic data collection
techniques
•Are able to design questionnaire using basic
principles of questionnaire design
•Are able to use questionnaire for resolution of a
problem
•Are able to evaluate data gathering techniques
and data collected
•Are able to work with measuring instruments and
techniques
